Some parents give their children everything that their children ask for or allow them to do whatever they want to do. Is this good for children? What could be consequences for these children when they grow up?
Some parents believe that giving children everything they ask for or allowing them complete freedom is a way to express love and care. Although this parenting style may create a pleasant childhood experience, I believe it is largely harmful and can result in significant problems when these children grow up.
Admittedly, such an approach can have certain short-term benefits. Children who are rarely restricted may feel emotionally secure and confident, as their opinions and desires are consistently valued. This sense of freedom can also encourage them to explore their interests freely, whether in hobbies, friendships or learning styles. As a result, some children may become more expressive and creative, since they are not afraid of making mistakes or being criticised by authority figures.
Nevertheless, the long-term consequences are often far more serious. Without clear rules and limitations, children may fail to develop essential qualities such as self-control, patience and responsibility. When they are accustomed to having their demands immediately satisfied, they may struggle to cope with disappointment or rejection later in life. In adulthood, this can translate into poor emotional regulation, making it difficult for them to handle pressure at work or resolve conflicts in relationships. Moreover, these individuals may develop a sense of entitlement, expecting others to prioritise their needs in the same way their parents once did. This attitude can lead to strained social interactions and difficulty adapting to environments where compromise and cooperation are required.
In conclusion, while giving children unrestricted freedom may seem supportive and loving, it can hinder their ability to function effectively as adults. A more balanced parenting style, which combines affection with reasonable boundaries, is more likely to help children develop resilience, social awareness and a realistic understanding of the world around them.
